Deacons
The Presbyterian Book of Order defines the purpose of Deacons to "first of all, to minister to those who are in need, to the sick, to the friendless, and to any who may be in distress."
At SSPC, 39 deacons serve 38 zones consisting of church families who live in the same general area.
Zone members can expect that their deacon will cultivate contact throughout the year and respond to situations of special need - such as illness, bereavement, and other life crisis.
Deacons serve the congregation at large by providing coffee after each church service, flower delivery, and as mentors to new members.
Our Deacons also conduct several outreach projects during the year such as Thanksgiving Baskets to needy families, the Christmas Angel Tree to provide gifts to underprivileged children, College/Military Care packages to our members, and holiday gifts to our homebound.
In addition, the Deacons sponsor the Stephen Ministry, Friendly Visitor Program, Prayer Chain and Shawl Ministries, Bloodmobile, Helping Hands and the Health Ministry programs.
